Wildcats Congrats for Off-Field Achievements
With rain keeping them off the ballfield, several Wildcats have kept busy with other endeavors. Congratulations to Jenna Gobrecht, Sophia Zugai, Maddie Kubicky, Mikaela Knupsky, and Katherine McFarland, who successfully bridged from Brownies to Junior Girl Scouts on May 16. Grace Bonnett also received her Brownie pin. Jenna, Maddie, and Mikaela also will perform in the Bellevue Elementary School talent show later this month singing their own rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame."

The Basics
The first order of business in 8-and-under softball is fun. This experience is intended to build a love of the game and a sense of self-confidence in young players. They learn basic softball skills and gain a general understanding of the game in a fun and encouraging way. Every single parent has a role to play — as bench moms, helper dads, base coaches, and sideline cheerleaders.

The girls are required to have their own fielding gloves. Bats are provided, but the girls are welcome to bring an aluminum bat of their own (wooden bats are prohibited). Many of the girls wear rubber cleats/spikes but they are not required.

Wildcats Notebook
June 14
Short-handed Wildcats fall to WVR Dolphins 10-9 - Despite having only six players today, the Wildcats churned up some serious offensive production in an abbreviated game at Scharmyn Park. Hazel Rouse and Mikaela Knupsky hammered the biggest outfield blasts of the season. Jenna Gobrecht, Caitlin Gazica, and Sophia Zugai also hit well. Gracie Bonnett made some stellar stops in the field. The Wildcats also recorded their first put-out at second base on an exchange between Gobrecht and Rouse.

May 31
Wildcats top WVR Purple Panthers, 12-10 - The Wildcats earned today's win with solid play on both sides of the ball. The entire lineup contributed hits, including a double by Jaycee Prescott. The highlight of the day (and the season so far) was the first hit for Gracie Bonnett. The entire Wildcats' camp went plain nuts in celebration of this personal victory.

May 27
Wildcats finally taste victory over WVR Sweethearts, 12-11 - Consistent improvement paid off tonight for the Wildcats playing on the road at Seville. The entire lineup peppered the field with plenty of hits, while the team showed improving defensive prowess. Savannah Renner, Mikaela Knupsky, Jaycee Prescott, and Grace Bonnett made the highlight reel with strong play in the infield.

May 24
Wildcats show promise in 10-9 loss to BAGAA Purple Panthers - It's been weeks since the Wildcats have seen game action, but you wouldn't know it by today's performance. There was strong hitting throughout the lineup, including a first-ever single by Maddie Kubicky. Even more impressively, the Wildcats showed progress defensively, throwing out several baserunners and playing much more heads-up ball. Jaycee Prescott, Jenna Gobrecht, and Caitlin Gazica anchored a strong infield. Prescott was robbed mid-game when a would-be double was snagged on an excellent play by BAGAA's Aidan Harrison.

May 5
After a long road trip to Economy, the Wildcats seemed sleepy at first, but came alive with a fourth-inning rally, including a double by Hazel Rouse. The Wildcats hit around the order in the inning, putting five runs on the board, but still falling short 13-10 to the Lady Tigers. Sophia Zugai was an offensive standout, sweeping the infield and grabbing up every ground ball in sight. The team will practice twice before its next contest on May 17.
