BHAA Community Feels
the Heat at PNC Park!

It really didn't matter that BHAA's 15u Heat came up short in the City BIG League 15u fastpitch championship, falling 9-1 to perennial powerhouse Mt. Washington. What mattered was that the got there in their very first season of fastpitch play. The Heat finished third overall with a 6-4 record this season and won a playoff bout with McKeesport to go to the "Big Show" at PNC Park.

What also mattered was the immense showing of community support that Brighton Heights Athletic Association families and friends generated on July 27, filling the stands with the Heat's trademark black and neon green and sporting various generations of BHAA's shirts and caps. No scientific survey was needed as evidence that BHAA fans clearly outnumbered Mt. Washington supporters for the night owl game that got started close to 10 p.m. The atmosphere in the stands was electric, with BHAA players of all ages running around in packs, just enjoying this special night at the big ballpark.

The Heat, as the rookies of city fastpitch play, entered the contest as the underdogs, but impressively held WHAA at bay for nearly five full innings. Pitcher Emily McBurney went the distance on the mound, and her teammates finished the night as psyched as when they arrived. Congratulations to manager Jack Shannon, his coaching staff, and all the Heat players on making BHAA proud!
