The Basics
The first order of business in 8-and-under softball is fun. This experience is intended to build a love of the game and a sense of self-confidence in young players. They learn basic softball skills and gain a general understanding of the game in a fun and encouraging way. Every single parent has a role to play — as bench moms, helper dads, base coaches, and sideline cheerleaders.

The girls are required to have their own fielding gloves. Bats are provided, but the girls are welcome to bring an aluminum bat of their own (wooden bats are prohibited). Many of the girls wear rubber cleats/spikes but they are not required.

Fireballs put out Economy III's fire, 15-11 - After weeks inactivity due to rain, the Fireballs traveled far, but it was well worth the trip. These flames in fuscia put the fire out in Freedom, Pa., edging the Economy III squad with solid hitting, fielding, and baserunning.

Jace White was honored recently for an essay she wrote as part of the DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance and Education) program at Allegheny Traditional Academy. She received a medal during a ceremony at Heinz Field.
